The carpet given to Pope Francis by the United Arab Emirates sold for $80000 as an NFT

On January 15, according to Khaleej times, the NFT of the historic pontifex carpet was sold for 25 ether (about $81800) on Friday to raise funds for Afghanistan. NFT is decorated on a gorgeous gold frame on a 165 cm digital canvas, and buyers will get a physical copy of the carpet.

The pontifex carpet, woven by Afghan women, was originally presented to Pope Francis by his highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy supreme commander of the UAE armed forces, during his visit to the Vatican in September 2016. The two leaders met to discuss strengthening existing diplomatic relations and promoting interreligious harmony.

The physical size of the carpet is 272 cm x 183 cm, made by Pope Francis bout Mohammed bin Zayed Initiative (fMBI) retail department, and the replica size is 187 cm x 125 cm, which is presented to anyone who buys it as an NFT.
